I make special cookies at Christmas. The recipe and tradition has been passed down mother to daughter for generations starting with my Hungarian great grandmother on the late 1800's. The list of ingredients is simple: pastry made from 1 pound each of flour, cream cheese and butter, and filling made from @ 20 ounces dried apricots and half a cup of sugar. And then some confectioner's sugar to sift on top before servingThe apricots *must* be from California; the flavor of Turkish or Mediterranean is too dull and bleh. I used to buy Sun Maid California but they no longer produce them so this year I bought a 20 ounce package of Traina which is enough for a single recipe that will make 12 to 14 dozen cookies depending on your skill with a rolling pin.The apricots are incredible. The flavor is bright and just tart enough to go with the richness of the pastry and the color is vibrant. As I simmered them and the scent of apricots filled the kitchen I knew Christmas was almost here.I'm so happy I found a supplier that will let me keep my family tradition alive and scrumptious.

These are the best dried apricots I have purchased. They may cost a little more but are so flavorful and fresh! They are the best I have found in years, and I have tried many. Sorry to see they aren't available now.

Not sweet.

I have no idea why a person would prefer a Turkish Dried Apricot more than a California Dried Apricot. These are the dried apricots I remember from my youth - filled with the most delicious apricot taste! They’re sweet & tangy. I can’t ever eat just one. And this company has perfected drying the California apricot! Really!! I’m so grateful they’re in business…

Unfortunately the product description on the web page does not identify this added preservative which can cause sensitive/allergic responses to some individuals. It is listed on the actual bag after purchasing, but an expensive product if it can't be consumed. Very disappointed!!
