This is a lovely book, the illustrations are marvellous. The 'big boy' doesn’t fit into a box, his character unfolds and Alfie (who is a proper little bloke, and not too complex) is a bit puzzled at some points. He is nurturing and rambunctious, a leader in one context, but insecure another. It’s a terrific character, very likeable, but I thought it needed unpacking for the story to have a point. Unpacking is good of course, books should be talked about. But the story was based on the character, rather than on plot development - does that make sense? So if they didn’t understand the character then the story, it wasn’t as interesting. Read this with other Alfie books, and your child will be enriched.

Alfie stories are much loved by all my students. The stories are of simple everyday occurances and kids can relate to them. The illustrations are just awesome.

This is the second time I've bought the Alfie books. Once for my first grandson now 22years old and second for the latest who is just 2years this month. It's as much a pleasure for me to read these books and I love the illustrations. I never get fed up with them. I will be buying more.

My grandson was so happy to have this read to him at bedtime. It is one of his most favorite stories and we will select other Alfie books.
