This WORKS!
I'm the only one in my house who doesn't get sick all the time thanks to this spray. Despite trying to convince family members it works, they would rather be sick than feel a brief sting in their nose. Their loss, but the good thing is that I run an experiment with a control group all the time. I use it, I don't get sick. They don't use it, they get sick. Enough said. The key is to use it at least 3+ times per day for it to be effective. An occasional spray or two won't cut it, unless perfectly timed for a brief high risk scenario. There's some data behind this active ingredient, although I don't know if it's the iota carrageenan or the combo with alcohol together that together works. But I've bought this over 5 times and it's gotten me through two tough seasons so far. Whenever I do sometimes come down with something it's usually mild if I'm using this. The only downside--this will give me a headache if I use it too much as it irritates my sinuses after a while. So I just do one spray a day for maintenance and take some days off, only ramping up to 3X per day if I'm around sick people or someone in the house comes down with something.Overall, it's not like wearing a hazmat suit and you still have to wash hands, avoid touching your eyes, and other good practices to avoid germs. But it's a good tool in my toolbox to avoid colds.

Doesn't hurt and might help prevent air-borne infections.
A physician friend recommended this as protection from air-borne viruses when travelling. I have used it on several long flights and have not gotten sick. It is no guarantee that this spray helps, but it doesn't hurt.

not painful
I bought this & another type of nose spray that’s supposed to help prevent airborne viral infection to use for dental appointments and if I think my mask wasn’t fitting well enough. I can’t speak to its effectiveness, but it has to be more effective than the other one since the other is too painful & causes nosebleeds. This one doesn’t cause nosebleeds so I can use it, therefore it’s more effective than one I can’t use.

Stings in the nose!
Betadine's iota-carrageenan nasal spray feels mild, as it really is just iota-carrageenan suspended in saline. When I use it, it feels the same as any simple saline spray. But this Epothex iota-carrageenan spray stings! It has several extra ingredients besides the iota-carrageenan and the saline, including a benzyl alcohol. I'm no biochemist, so I have no idea why these extra ingredients are in this spray when they aren't needed in the Betadine one, but I can definitely say that it does NOT make for a pleasant experience. It also makes me a bit worried as to whether these extra ingredients are weakening my nasal cavity, especially with the alcohol involved.I'll only be keeping this one around the house in case I run out of the Betadine sprays. If you're looking at this spray because it's priced lower than the fluctuating prices of Betadine's spray, you may want to rethink that.
