The Catechism of the Catholic Church: Ascension Edition

I had bought th Ascension Edition since the paperback was not available in English. But I'm glad I bought this version because it looks like it will last for many years. I bought this book primarily for myself after planning my return to the Roman Church. I never had been taught indepth (just very surface level) and I hope to use this to help me along in my journey and so far I'm very pleased. The book is easy to read, well written and the table of content, glossary, indexes are a great help for reference.This is of course, Vatican II material. I also think this would make perfect Confirmation gift or for anyone looking for more indepth education of their faith if they received what felt like a superficial one like I had, or returning to Roman Catholicism.

I can't say enough good things about this publication. I am not even Catholic, but started reading the catechism to learn more about the basic doctrines of the christian faith. This publication is outstanding in every way! The binding is excellent. The book lays flat on every page. The pages are on durable paper, heavy enough to write notes with pen or pencil. You can use highlighters and even sharpie markers without excessive ghosting on the reverse side of the page. The nine blank pages at the back of the book allow extra space for your special notes. Four non-fraying ribbons are included, color-coded to each of the four major sections of the book. Every paragraph is numbered, so you can find exactly the spot you are looking for in the text. The margins are adequate for taking notes - I have made notes on almost every page and am using the blank pages at the back of the book for recording an index of my notes. The size of the text is just right. I typically buy large-print editions when available, but that is not necessary with this book. The special adhesive indexing tabs, which you can purchase separately, will enhance your experience in studying the catechism. The writing style of this book is wonderful. Everything is clearly laid out in the text, in plain English, yet contains an undertone of poetic beauty, similar to the scriptures. I am thrilled with this purchase. Ascension Press has knocked it out of the park with the production of this catechism.

LOVE this easy to read, enjoyable format of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The way it's been put together makes you want to pick it up daily and learn all there is to know about your Catholic faith! I highly recommend downloading the Ascension App and following along with the Catechism in a Year podcast with Fr. Mike Schmitz (FREE), using this Catechism. It will truly transform your life if you commit to it. That's what we want, isn't it? Not just to read it, but to live it? To be transformed by Jesus speaking to us through the Scriptures and through the magesterium of the Church with the Catechism? I also highly recommend the Bible in a Year podcast with Fr. Mike Schmitz, as well. Fr. Mike's commentary at the end of each podcast is genuinely heartwarming. His love for his vocation and for his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ (and even those listening who may not be Christian) who listen to the podcasts in palpable.

excellent, easy to read and understand

This review is for the more expensive faux leather edition from Ascension Press.Sturdy, well sewn together, with thick pages. Well organized and attractive print with headings, information boxes, and themed sections color-coded. Extensive index, glossary and (both biblical and ecumenical, ecclesiastical, and pontifical) citation listings. Book lays flat and has four colored ribbon bookmarks sewn in. Comes with a free folding chart "The Catechism at a Glance".I have had two other editions of the Catechism, but none were as inviting and easy to navigate as this one. Others were not as approachable and I easily got lost. I find this one to be easier to relate to and to cross reference with other sources because of the attention to headings at the top of each page letting you know what the topic relates to and some of the nice extras like the over 200 page appendix as well as the many boxes throughout the text giving sources and glossary words cited in that section.It cost me $65 but it was worth the extra money because I plan to have and use it for the rest of my life.

As always Ascension did an outstanding job putting together this book. The pages are nice and thick, no need to worry about tears or rips. Nice high quality leather-like cover. And the contents are nicely organized with plenty of additional supplementary information to help better understand what is found in the Catechism. I highly recommend not only this product but the Catechism in a Year Companion books (3 volumes). Thank you Ascension, keep up the good work!

This is laid out very well & easy to read

Wonderful! The quality is first rate. My wife and I will enjoy a lot of study time with this and it will be something truly worth passing on to our children.
