Great bike, plenty of power and speed
I'll start by saying that overall the bike is great. It's somewhat heavy and a bit cumbersome to move, but riding it is smooth and easy. To be honest for a bike costing several hundred pounds, you'd think they could've used more than an a6-sized instruction book with the TINIEST possible print on the planet. This should've come with an a4-sized manual. Also some of the instructions given for assembly - although there's not all that many steps, was not thorough enough. It told you do do something without having first told you to do something else so you had to guess a few times. It didn't quite specify clearly enough exactly which way around something should go or in front or behind or in what order etc. Overall it wasn't too hard to figure out based on the pictures but the tiny instructions and even tinier user manual could've been a lot better - 3 of out of 5 for those.Once the bike is put together though it's pretty cool. Slightly disappointing that the battery had 0 charge to begin with so you couldn't actually test out the electric part until charging the battery several hours. That aside, once working I was pleasantly surprised, even quite shocked at how much oomph the bike has once the motor kicks in. It can easily go up very steep hills with barely the slightest peddling effort and I was even less tired at the top than I would've been walking up. I was an able to zip along at what felt like a fast speed at 24.9 km/h (15 mph?) which seemed plenty fast enough. I was quite surprised just how much assistance it gives, it really barely requires you to move the pedals around to keep the engine engaged. Once you stop pedaling to coast along though it cuts out the motor, although I haven't activated the throttle part of it yet for unassisted motoring. Can confirm the bike appears to be entirely compliant with UK laws at present (mid 2024) regarding limits and power output etc. It takes a little bit getting used to the fact that the bike will GOOOO once you've pedalled once or twice, and on the power level 5 that means some significant acceleration. But it doesn't take long to get the hang of it. Have to beware of making small standing adjustments like turning the pedals a few times to realign the bike after a tight turn or near a curb because you might suddenly shoot off into the bushes, which I almost did, lol.Took a little bit of fiddling to figure out how to turn it on. Key has to be engaged the whole time and the tiny buttons are not well marked for visibility. But it works. Has a bunch of menu options including ability to unlock higher speeds and adjust to MPH etc. Seat is very comfortable. The bike is fairly large even in its folded state. A bit heavy to lift or carry but it's doable over short distances. The folding mechanisms are quick and easy.Wheels are super chunky 4" and I found that my super mega bike lock will not fit around them which is something to consider. The bike has a throttle which I think can be unlocked for use, though I haven't done that yet, which supposedly allows for an automatic electric-only mode up to 6 km/h (also unlock able to higher speeds, currently not legal in the UK but there's a new UK law in progress to raise the speed limit).[EDIT] Can confirm that once unlocking the throttle for use (hold down left brake and right throttle while powering on and hold for 8 seconds) the throttle is NOT limited to 6km/h, it will go all the way up to top speed - which is currently not legal. So you can't just use it for a standing start, which means I had to again disable it (same procedure) so cannot legally be used right now.[/EDIT]The tools it comes with are adequate, although there is no spanner large enough for taking the rear wheel off if needed. Front and rear lights work. Rear light appears to be on all the time, front can be turned on and off. Removing the battery took some figuring out, you have to turn the key AND push it inwards to fully unlock the bolt, AND then take the key out before the battery will slide out. Takes about 6 hours to charge fully, up to 500 charges or so. Handlebars and grips are comfortable, can be adjusted. Gear shifting is smooth and easy up and down which a quick release button to shift into higher gears. Brakes are disc based and work well. Pedals are foldable for slimmer storage. Seat can be raised up and down and has numbers to remember but the markings stop a bit short of my ideal height. There's a few omissions in the instructions, e,g it doesn't even mention how to put the bell on - or that it even is a bell, or how it works. But most things can be figured out fairly easily. Besides that overall the bike is surprisingly nippy and quick to accelerate especially at power level 5. Only takes about one turn of the pedals to kick in activation of the motor. Once you stop turning the pedals for a few seconds the motor switches off. If you're on a hill when that happens you will suddenly feel how difficult it is to pedal without power, lol... but can just start pedals again for help. There is also a walking mode where the bike will moe at a fairly slow speed while you walk, e.g. so that yo udon have to push it much going up a hill. You can also set it to manual power only with no electrical input for regular biking. Overall looks great, modern design, proportions are fine even for a taller person (i'm 6'1). Crossbar is a little high to get your leg over though, probably not so suited to shorter people. Overall design and constructions seems very good and sturdy and high quality. Seems to be well made and reliable. Fun to ride and definitely WAY easier to cycle longer distances and up hills. You just need to keep the pedals moving so if you go faster you'll want to switch the gears to a higher gear so that your pedal movement isn't too fast. At the fastest speed e.g. 24.9 km/h in 7th gear your legs will still be moving somewhat fast but not really rapid. The bike though doesn't seem to mind so long as the pedals are moving around, even if you're still in 1st gear.Would recommend to pretty much anyone though it might not be ideal for a shorter person and due to the weight there is some awkwardness or risk of it falling over when stationary, plus the high-ish crossbar is a little challenging. Feels kind of like riding a motorbike, looks a bit like one too. Btw it tells you to pump up the tires which stated at about 12 PSI but it doesn't tell to how much to do it, so you have to read the tired, which say max pressure of 20 PSI... I did mine to 17 with an electric bike pump (save time with ridiculous pumping). Rear bike rack is heavy duty.. and actually the bars are quite thick and turned out to be too thick for the pannier bags i bought so now I have to DIY it somehow.Price was lower than most similar e-bikes, but certainly is not skimping on quality or function. Well worth it.
