You push the bottom of the pen to inject liquid into the applicator and the brush makes it easy to apply to the whites. However, I felt the liquid didn't cover my grays. It also made my hair a bit heavy, almost greasy feeling. There isn't a lot of transfer to my fingers but if you rub it enough times, you will see some remnants of the brown pigment color transfer to your fingers. It will also transfer to your pillow case but not as much as the powder formulas do.
