The sweetest story.
A great introduction to the world of Shirley Hughes, whose writing and illustrations are delightful and a favorite of our family. Will not disappoint.

Love The Illustrations
Not only is the story a good one, but Shirley Hughes' wonderful drawings are the star. My preschool granddaughters picked up on the wonderfu thing she does in her heavily people-populated pages - she places important characters in the background so that you can trace their movements to the climax of the story. You might not realize it the first time through - I didn't - but my five year old granddaughter did. "She's on another page," and so she was. there's a whole bunch to look at and though the book is a classic, it looks really fresh.

Let's just say..
Dave & his sister are way nicer than me. I would've handled that girl to get digger back differently. And don't get me started on the old lady!

A warm, heartfelt story!
Dogger is a sweet tale about a little boys's love and attachment to a beloved stuffed dog. He loses Dogger then finds him in an unusual setting. It looks like he'll lose Dogger again but his big sister saves the day. It truly is a lovely story about a young boys's affection towards a stuffed animal and his sister who sacrifices something of her own to help her brother. My children loved this story when they were young. It's the perfect gift for 4-6 year olds.

David and Dog lover
This is absolutely my favorite children's book. I never forgot when the librarian in 2nd grade read it to us, and afterwards in my heart my favorite book was "David and Dog." Now that I'm a mom, obtaining this book has been top priority, so when Amazon offered it I was thrilled! I wondered what the difference between the original UK version and the US version would be, but since it was the original text I thought that was cool enough to go ahead and purchase it. Though I *love* reading this version to my kids, and they ask for it specifically, I do wish : 1. That I had the US version. There are several places where I just have to replace the word; it gets cumbersome reading the unfamiliar terminology. (eg, "pushchair" for "stroller" is ok, but I have to put in "flashlight" for "torch"). 2. This would be offered in hardcover. With the use it is getting, softcover is easier to wrinkle and easier to just lose on the bookshelf. GET THIS BOOK; but please offer David and Dog too!!

Dogger-beautiful child's book
My daughter, now a new mom, loved this book. Her little sister had a special toy, Fozzie Bear, that she loved. My older daughter had her seal and bear that she loved. I bought it for her young son. It is a classic and Shirley Hughes is such a talented artist. All of her books are recommended by Children's Librarians for artwork for childen.

Adorable book about sibling love
This sweet story of a brother who loses his favorite toy and the older sister who redeems it for him by giving up a brand new, shiny, bigger and better toy, with no prompting from an adult, but just because she loves her brother, should be a must-read for every multi-child family. We love this warm, gentle story. It's one of the books I will make sure each of my children has available to read to my grandchildren.

Great for new sibling
This is a heartwarming book about a boy who loses his favourite toy, and how his family come together to help him get it back again. Like all the Shirley Hughes books I've read so far, they are beautifully illustrated, with just the right amount of subtlety in their message.I loved this story myself as a child in the early 90s, and bought a copy for my daughter when she was 2. She has read it again and again on repeat and regularly asks for it, seeking it out if I've moved it out of circulation for a while. Lovely formall children to read but even more relevant to her now especially as she now has a clear favourite toy she carries everywhere, and she also has a younger sibling.I've appreciated this book even more since recently having my second daughter. There is a page where big sister Bella does something very kind, and my now 3 year old really hones in on this. It actually makes me cry a little bit sometimes when I think about how kind that is for a child to do. My daughter tries to copy "big sister Bella" in her pretend play, acting out the book and her kindness. She also loves taking 7 teddies to bed like Bella now, and putting her toy dog on a lead and walking it around like Dave does. She also always points out things with the little brother in the story (Joe) that are relevant to her real life with a new little sister (eg Connie likes hard toys like joe/she likes putting toys in her mouth as she's getting teeth/we have stacking cups like joe but not that pink one/Connie can't have ice-cream as she's a baby).Good story, good morals and beautifully bought alive with wondering illustrations. Good for teaching young children about various things (numbers (how many teddies Bella has, how dogger costs 5p but Dave only has 3 etc), what different races are (eggs me spoon, wheelbarrow etc) and so on. Also good present idea if you're looking to buy a book as it's beautiful, realistic, and relatable, but not as popular as some other books so less likely the parents already own it.
