Wonderful item.
I purchased this after having many failed attempts of getting our awning right. I've had poles falling on me while my hubby tried to get tension correct. So I bought this gadget. It's not a gadget because it will be used again and again. It's so easy to use and I don't know how I ever managed without it. You literally just put up against the pole and press the trigger and the pole shifts and you stop once the tension is right. I would recommend this to anyone who wants their awning looking how they should.

Reliability
Made my job so easy

Not for me!
just as easy to tension by hand, try to stretch it further and the clamps slips especial when using it on poles that have the thumbscrew type locks

No instructions, but essential
I purchased a secondhand awning. I assembled it. It worked well until we got rain…On the roof of the awning a lot of water pooled. I mean a lot of water. So much so that I only just managed to open my caravan door. So I spent a few hours googling this problem. It seems the problem could be that I didn’t pull the awning poles tight enough to make the cover tight enough. So I went around the awning and tightened all the poles as best as I could. Overnight, we had a load of rain. Again, water was pooling in the roof. Not as bad, but still there. So I went online again and saw that you can buy a awning pole tensioner. I bought this on next day delivery to my campsite. I didn’t know how to use it, as there was no instructions in the box. But I found a video on line. I went around my awning with this item and it managed to extend the poles by loads, compared by hand. That night and for the following few night there was torrential rain. Every morning there was no rain pooling on the roof. There was no way I could have done this tension by hand. I think this item is an essential item for pole awning construction

Not impressed
Don't waste your money, try an alternative product. This didn't grip the poles at all. The plastic coating on the bar is simply to smooth.

GREAT TOOL - NO AWNING ERECTOR SHOULD BE WITHOUT ONE!
Despite some negative reviews I found it excellent especially as I have to do everything single handed now. For those who gave negative reviews I can only say you could not be using it properly. You have to have the 'hook' that goes on the 'moveable' pole angled back towards the handle and then, grip the pole and 'squeeze' the tensioner together with the 'hook' in between. This gives enough friction on the pole to ensure it lengthens very easily. I am sure there are videos out there. Would not be without it now.Another top tip - once tensioned put a 'Jubilee clip' around the pole to prevent it slipping back!

Excellent Tensioner
Much better than I anticipated and better than Isabella's Hercules tensioner (I now have both). Very impressed with the heavy duty build quality and it got our awning absolutely rigid. Fab bit of kit.

Helping hand
Found this useful when adjusting poles in the awning after winds had loosened them from storm.Saved over stretching and held firm while making adjustments. Great idea!
